Descriptions of each position is listed below, followed by information that applies to all positions. Due to funding requirements, all positions are for people aged 15-30 years old.
Music Recording Studio Coordinator with SadRad Music Collective

Radstorm is looking to hire a Recording Studio Coordinator with the SadRad Music Collective to assist musicians to learn how to record and present their music!
Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be responsible for the following. All tasks will be carried out with the collaboration and support of other members of the collective and will include:
- Setting up a recording studio:
- Determining what equipment is needed and purchasing equipment within a set budget
- Set up of the studio, including working with a small construction crew to do sound treatment of the room
- Creating easy-to-follow guides, signage, and instruction manuals on how to use the equipment and how to do basic recording for musicians and bands
- Inventory and maintenance of shared music equipment
- Promoting and working in the studio:
- Outreach and promotion of the studio to a wide range of users
- Recruiting and training volunteers to assist with the studio
- Schedule orientation sessions with musicians and bands
- Basic instruction and support for musicians and bands to learn how to use the equipment
- Assisting musicians to promote their work:
- Helping with “Collective Video” an online platform for sharing videos and recordings of local musicians
- Assist with event planning and show organization (taking into consideration health and safety guidelines re: covid-19), including training and supporting musicians to use live performance equipment such as the PA and soundboard
- Assist with other duties around the space:
- Host open hours and be welcoming to the public (training provided)
- Organize and attend meetings and take notes/prepare updates
- Light cleaning and organization/tidying of the space
Qualifications
- Knowledge of basic music recording techniques
- Ability and interest in teaching others
- Willingness to work in a collective environment, including attending meetings and participating in a group decision making process
- Self-motivated and ability to work independently

InkStorm Screenprinting Workshop & Solidarity Coordinator

Ink Storm Screenprinting Collective is looking to hire a Screenprinting Instructor to run workshops and support artists and community organizers to create screenprinted art. Screenprinting training and support will be provided to the successful applicant.
Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be responsible for the following. All tasks will be carried out with the collaboration and support of other members of the collective and will include:
- Screenprinting Workshops
- Plan and instruct a series of workshops to teach the public how to screenprint
- Workshops can be introductory and suited to the comfort level of the instructor. Training and support from existing Ink Storm members will be provided.
- Promote and advertise the workshops through poster design, social media, and outreach to community organizations
- Respond to emails and register participants
- Update guides and written resources
Note: All workshops will be small in size with 5 or fewer participants and will follow health and safety protocols re: Covid-19. If group workshops are not possible, the employee can work one-on-one with participants and/or create online/video and written instruction manuals. We are flexible to what the job will look like. If teaching workshops is outside of your comfort level, we can adjust the job description to fit your skills and interests.
- Community Solidarity
- Outreach and work with community groups and individuals to help create art and facilitate access to screenprinting resources to support social justice and anti-racism movements (eg. Black Lives Matter, Indigenous Sovereignty movements, etc)
- Member Support
- Assist members to use the screenprinting studio
- Assist members of the public to screenprint during scheduled public open hours (Sunday afternoons)
- Coordinate other Ink Storm members to help with workshops, community solidarity projects and open hours
- Meet with new, interested members to give them an orientation to the space and encourage them to get involved
- Take photos to document, highlight, and promote the work of artists at Ink Storm!
- Studio Organization
- Reorganizing the screenprinting studio to be more functional
- Keeping the studio spaced organized, tidy and stocked with supplies
- Cleaning used screens and keeping track of screen rentals
- Creative Project
- Create your own project to engage people with screenprinting based on your particular skills and interests:
- This could be a group art show (in person and/or online), print exchange among members, a fun event, fundraising art auction, public/outdoor art, or anything else you might like to do!
- Assist with other duties around the space:
- Host open hours and be welcoming to the public (training provided)
- Organize and attend meetings and take notes/prepare updates
- Light cleaning and organization/tidying of the Radstorm space
Qualifications
- Basic screenprinting skills are an asset (you don’t need to be an expert or have formal art education!). If you don’t know how to screenprint, we can teach you!
- Ability and interest in teaching and helping others
- Willingness to work in a collective environment, including attending meetings and participating in a group decision making process.
- Self-motivated and ability to work independently

Graphic Design, Marketing and Communications Coordinator

Radstorm is looking to hire a graphic designer/social media manager to create, collaborate, and share our collective projects, events, and the resources on offer at Radstorm with our community.
Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be responsible for the following. All tasks will be carried out with the collaboration and support of other members of the collective and will include:
- Graphic Design
- Creation and distribution of promotional materials
- Updating signage, creating solidarity art/banners, etc
- Design materials for web and social media
- Social Media Management
- Liaising with other Radstorm team members and volunteers to promote events and projects on an ongoing basis
- Updating our social media accounts across several platforms
- Helping promote and support “Collective Video”, an online platform for sharing videos and recordings of local musicians
- Communications and Volunteer Engagement
- Responding to emails/public inquiries
- Connecting interested people with resources and opportunities to get involved
- Assist with other duties around the space:
- Host open hours and be welcoming to the public (training provided)

Qualifications
We are looking for someone from an arts and design background with strong social media and communication skills. However, this position has a lot of flexibility in terms of what skills the candidate can bring to the table- if you excel at web design, help update our website and create an online merch store! If video editing is your thing, create videos from our backlog of unedited footage. More of a marketing background? Assist the fundraising committee and implement new strategies. We want to know how to create a role that best suits your skills- let us know what skills you bring to the table and how you envision applying them.

Anchor Archive Zine Library Coordinator

The Anchor Archive is hiring a Zine Library Coordinator to organize and develop the library and distro (zines for sale), catalogue zines, facilitate programs, coordinate volunteers, and other projects.
Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be responsible for the following, with flexibility based on background and interests:
- Communications and outreach:
- Promote the zine library collection, resources, and events through the website, social media, and other promotional materials
- Help visitors to the library find zines, borrow zines, use the catalogue, do research, and use zine library resources
- Respond to email and other inquiries about the zine library collection and services
- Coordinate and train zine library volunteers
- Explore collaboration opportunities with other organizations and people in the space and the community
- Projects and programming:
- Revamp and promote the zine distro (where we sell zines), which will include finding and purchasing new zines
- Work on the zine vending machine
- Organize and facilitate zine library programs, such as zine-making workshops and zine cataloguing parties
- Zine collection and metadata management:
- Create original catalogue records for zines using our simple in-house system
- Update and advise on the zine library alternative subject thesaurus
- Improve organization and accessibility of the zine collection, including shelf-reading, making displays, organizing special collections
- Process zine donations
- Assist with duties around the space:
- Host open hours and be welcoming to the public (training provided)
- Organize and attend meetings and take notes/prepare updates
- Light cleaning and organization/tidying of the space
Qualifications
- Interest in and knowledge of libraries, independent media, and art
- Interest in organizing or managing collections and improving access to information
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with training, facilitation, or coordinating volunteers
- Organized and detail-oriented
- Creative, flexible, and comfortable in an unconventional work environment
- Self motivated and able to work well independently with minimal supervision. The Anchor Archive is run by a volunteer collective and has no full-time staff. The Coordinator will be supported and trained by collective members, but will mostly work independently without active supervision. This is a great position for someone with ideas and initiative!

About Anchor Archive
The Anchor Archive Zine Library is a small, collectively-run, special library in the North End of Halifax with a large circulating collection of zines (self-published publications made outside of mainstream media, which are often personal, political, or artistic). It has been providing access to independent media, art, and local zine history and culture since 2005 through operating the library and offering tools, resources, and programming for making zines. It is part of RadStorm, a DIY arts space that also includes Ink Storm Screen Printing Collective and Sad Rad Music Collective.

Funding Requirements
This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs Program, therefore applicants must be:
- Between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
- A Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*; and
- Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.
*International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
Accessibility
Radstorm/The Anchor Archive/Inkstorm is on the ground floor of a building with one step up to the front door and a small ramp that can be placed over the step. The SadRad Music Studio is located in the basement down a flight of stairs with a handrail. The washrooms may not be accessible to all people due to lack of grab bars and other specialized equipment.

Term and Compensation
- Each position is for a total of 195 hours at $18/hr.
- Start date will be Monday Aug 17, 2020 but can be flexible if needed
- Length of term and hours worked per week will be determined with the successful applicant, but must be completed by February 2021 at the latest.
