SadRad

SadRad is a collective responsible for a not-for-profit all-ages venue, shared equipment, and a communal jam space.

SadRad music collective helps host and promote shows and performance-based events and runs workshops on using our sound equipment to set users up to run their own shows. SadRad also has a space in the basement set up for members to practice music and sound-based projects alone or with a group.

More on our jam spaces:

It is $20/hour for a 2-hour block. We are always open to work trades, or providing lower fees for those who need.
During open hours, you can practice for free. Please respect other people’s needs and do not use the entirety of every open hour to practice.

If easier, you can e-transfer your fees to radstormhalifax@gmail.com. Please include your name, your band’s name, and what the money is for.
We operate on the honour-system, but we rely on these fees to stay open! The money we collect from jam fees goes straight into our operational costs- paying our rent & utilities, repairs, purchasing communal goods (soap, toilet paper, etc) plus updating our space when our finances allow. This means repairing our sound equipment, and otherwise investing directly back into our collectives.

The Mankos playing at SadRad

SAD RAD utilizes a do-it-together approach to organizing and promoting while specifically gearing events towards the underage crowd and others who may not be represented or are alienated by the larger Halifax music scene. We aim to foster community building through trust, respect, communication and support. SAD RAD does not tolerate violence, hatred, or oppressive behaviour. Our space is alcohol and drug free, community funded, queer positive, and totally punk (but open to all types of music!). We encourage anyone who is interested to become a participant and help shape the way RADSTORM grows.

SadRad has been around in one form or another since June 2012 trying to keep things positively positive. Want to get involved or find out more, come to a meeting or send an email to sadrad (at) googlegroups (dot com)

We try to have monthly fundraising events to help cover our share of the rent at Radstorm. These are usually shows with local bands, if you want to play a fundraising event for the space please get in touch.

From time to time we put on shows for touring bands. We take a 30% cut of door, leaving the rest to be split up among bands (though we will sometimes waive or reduce our fee in the event of either an under attended show or a very well attended show, respectively). We cannot stress enough that the space is alcohol and drug free and that to keep our space open to the public this needs to be respected. If you are an out of town band that would like to play a show here, reach out to someone you know in the collective to help bottomline the event for you, or send an email to the group and see if anyone wants to take it on.
