Ableton User Group Halifax: Spring Challenge
we will meet at Radstorm on this day to showcase submissions, pick the winners and distribute prizes
Everyone is invited to come and participate, everything is free!
Concept / Theme:
Producers must create a track that incorporates at least one interpretation of the word “spring.” This could be:
The Season: blooming, light, warmth, nature, rejuvenation
The Object: metal springs, bouncing, coiling, tension/release
The Verb: to leap, to emerge, to activate suddenly
Bonus if multiple meanings are combined!
Production Rules:
Track Length: 1–3 minutes
Must be produced in a DAW or Hardware
Theme Usage: Clearly integrate the chosen meaning(s) of “spring” — through sound design, samples, lyrics, titles, etc.
Mandatory Element: Use at least one custom sound or instrument rack inspired by the theme (e.g., a spring reverb resampled and warped, or a chirping bird synth).
Deadline: June 21st
Submission: Export track as WAV/MP3
Creative Prompts (Optional Aids):
Record or sample a physical spring (from a pen, doorstop, etc.) and manipulate it.
Use natural field recordings (rain, wind, bees) for a “seasonal spring.”
Design a rhythm that feels like it’s bouncing or springing.
Use a musical ramp-up or drop to represent the verb “to spring forth.”
