suddenlyLISTEN is launching a free weekly music program for teenaged youth in the Halifax North End: soundLAB Youth Sound Sessions (sLAB).
The aim of sLAB is to provide a welcoming and supportive space for teens to explore sound and music creation. Topics will centre around listening, experimentation, and improvisation using a variety of instruments, including voice, drums, and electronics. The teens will collaborate to create music reflecting their own feelings and life experiences. At the conclusion of the program, the young artists will choose to perform their work for an audience or make a professional recording.
The group will be led by two creative musicians active in Halifax’s North End music community: accredited music therapist, singer-songwriter, and improviser Rebecca Fairless, and Hassan Munir, rock drummer.
